FIRST FIELD SURVEY OF SUMMER 2025 SEMESTER, HELD IN AFTABNAGAR PLAYGROUND, DHAKA.

On July 27, 2025, the Department of Civil Engineering at East West University organized the first field survey of the Summer 2025 semester at Aftabnagar Playground, Dhaka, for students enrolled in the “Surveying and Introduction to GIS” course (CE103/CE7103). The survey was conducted under the guidance of two faculty members and three lab officers, with enthusiastic participation from students of both sections. The university administration generously covered all expenses, underscoring its strong commitment to promoting practical, hands-on learning experiences.

Throughout the session, students engaged in a range of practical surveying exercises designed to expose them to real-world challenges. These activities not only reinforced theoretical concepts but also enhanced their problem-solving skills, technical competence, and confidence in handling surveying instruments. By working in an outdoor environment, students experienced the practical aspects of data collection, accuracy checks, and teamwork, all of which are essential components of professional surveying practice.

Surveying field tasks are of particular importance in civil engineering education, as they serve as the bridge between classroom knowledge and industry applications. Exposure to such fieldwork equips students with the ability to adapt to site conditions, environmental variables, and practical constraints skills that cannot be acquired through textbooks alone. Moreover, these activities foster leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking, preparing students to confidently contribute to infrastructure planning, design, and execution in their future careers.

This initiative not only enriched the students’ learning journey but also laid a stronger foundation for their professional growth and career readiness in the field of civil engineering.
