An Enlightening Study Tour to Saidabad Water Treatment Plant: How Water Treatment Works

To provide students with first-hand exposure to a functioning civil engineering facility and its operation and maintenance, the Department of Civil Engineering at East West University organized an educational field visit to the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) Phase II, which has been operating successfully since 2012 and serves as an excellent example of sustainable water infrastructure. The visit commenced with a warm welcome by the SWTP authorities, followed by an informative presentation by a plant engineer, highlighting the plant's major features and operational processes. This was extended further by a guided tour of the laboratories and treatment units, covering the complete water treatment cycle from raw water intake to treated water distribution, including emergency response procedures. This visit concluded with an interactive session with the plant engineers. It enhanced the students' understanding of water treatment processes, operational management, water quality monitoring, and how sustainable water supply systems contribute to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
