SEMINAR ON “DRONE TECHNOLOGY FOR ENGINEERING DECISION MAKING’’ FROM CIVIL ENGINEERING PERSPECTIVE BY ONUSHANDHANI CREEDS LIMITED.

East West University & The Department of Civil Engineering had the privilege of hosting an insightful presentation on the growing role of “Drone Technology for Engineering Decision-Making” from Civil Engineering Perspective. On 28 November 2024, Engr. Md. Shahadat Hossain, Managing Director and CEO of Onushandhani Creeds Limited, delivered an engaging session that highlighted the transformative impact drones have across various engineering fields.

The Role of Drones in Engineering

Drones have become an essential tool in engineering, offering innovative solutions to challenges in surveying, construction, infrastructure monitoring, water resources, and environmental management. During the presentation, Engr. Md. Shahadat Hossain discussed how drones are revolutionizing decision-making by enabling engineers to capture real-time, high-accuracy data, ensuring better planning and execution of projects.

Key topics covered in the session included:

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Drones provide precise, high-resolution data quickly, reducing the margin for error and enabling more accurate decision-making in real-time.
  • Cost and Time Efficiency: The use of drones for aerial surveys and inspections significantly reduces the time and cost associated with manual processes, improving overall project efficiency.
  • Improved Decision Making: Drones offer engineers detailed imagery and video, making it easier to assess sites and analyze conditions, leading to more informed and faster decisions.
  • Enhanced Safety and Accessibility: Drones can access difficult-to-reach or hazardous locations, reducing the risk to human workers while ensuring comprehensive monitoring.

The CEO also explored the future of drone technology, emphasizing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning to create autonomous drones capable of advanced data analysis. These innovations will further enhance the role of drones in engineering, streamlining workflows and providing even more precise solutions for complex projects.

In addition to discussing the technical aspects of drone applications, Engr. Md. Shahadat Hossain encouraged East West University students to embrace an interdisciplinary approach to their education. By combining their engineering expertise with knowledge of emerging technologies like drones, students can stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.

The presentation concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and explore how they can integrate drone technology into their academic work and future careers. The session was well received, with students expressing interest in the growing opportunities in drone technology and its applications in engineering.
