GPH ispat introduces Quantum Steel Products in Department of Civil Engineering
On 19 May 2024, the Department of Civil Engineering at East West University hosted GPH ISPAT Limited to organize a seminar for final-year students, focusing on the innovative Quantum Electric Arc Furnace Technology for steel production. Held at the ‘S.M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery’ of East West University, the event was attended by students, faculty members, administrative officials, and industry experts, making it a significant gathering for knowledge exchange and industry-academia collaboration.
The seminar was anchored by two East West Civil Engineering club members. SM Mahmudul Hasan Raju, Manager, Brand & Communication, GPH ispat delivered the introductory remark on the company and their newly launched products. Anchors welcomed the session technical speaker, Dr. Engr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman Talukder, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at EWU to present his talk on advanced steel helical pile for smart foundation system. Besides, Dr Talukder also showed a modelling output of steel structure from GPH ispat steel properties using STADPRO software. Afterwards, Md. Iqbal Hossain, Deputy Manager, Technical Support (Corporate Sales), delivered a comprehensive overview of GPH Quantum B600C-R and B600D-R rebar, and their advantages over existing rebar technologies in the construction sector of Bangladesh. The technical session detailed the Quantum Electric Arc Furnace Technology and high strength steel rebar. The technology's key features, advantages, and environmental sustainability aspects captivated the audience. A lively Q&A session followed by a rapid-fire quiz allowed students to interact directly with the industry delegates. Engr. Shimanta Datta and Engr. Tahmina Banu from GPH Ispat Limited conducted the segments respectively.
At the closing, Dr. Md. Naimul Haque, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Civil Engineering at EWU, announced the three winners of the quiz who were awarded a “Two-day factory visit to GPH Ispat's facility in Kumira, Chittagong”. In the closing speech, the chairperson thanked GPH ispat and emphasized the importance of new technologies for sustainable development in the construction industry. He concluded by saying ‘Industry like GPH ispat limited should often arrange such seminars for the greater benefit of the students and academia. Finally, the GPH ispat officials extended their vote of thanks to the Department of Civil Engineering to provide necessary consent and assistance for this successful event.
