Flood Relief Fund Collection and Handover Ceremony by East West University Civil Engineering Club

Event Date: September 9, 2024

The Civil Engineering Club of East West University recently undertook a significant initiative to support flood-affected communities in Bangladesh, particularly in the district of Noakhali, Comilla and Feni. Which faced severe devastation. The club organized a fundraising drive from August 25 to September 7, 2024, to help rebuild homes for those impacted by the floods.

During the fundraising period, club members worked tirelessly, collecting donations from local communities by going road-to-road and mosque-to-mosque. Every Friday, after Jummah prayers, club members visited various mosques, appealing for contributions to support the cause. In addition to local efforts, the club received substantial financial support from alumni, both within the country and abroad, and from the faculty members of East West University.

Once the funds were collected, the club planned to allocate them toward rebuilding homes in flood-affected areas. On September 9, 2024, during an event organized by the Civil Engineering Club called the 'Alumni Converse Series,' the collected funds were formally handed over to Shehanoor Rahman Asif, an alumnus of East West University and co-founder of the social initiative ‘ভালো কাজের হোটেল - Meal for Good Work.’ Mr. Asif, who was invited as the guest speaker for the event, graciously accepted the funds and pledged to use them through his organization to assist the flood victims in rebuilding their homes.

The event was held in the presence of esteemed faculty members, students, and alumni. The club president, Md. Arefin Siddique, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the cause. He acknowledged the tireless efforts of both junior and senior club members, who collected funds under challenging circumstances, as well as the generous contributions from alumni and faculty members. Mr. Siddique emphasized that this initiative is just the beginning, and the club is determined to organize more social welfare activities soon.

The formal handover of the funds was conducted by Dr. MD. Naimul Haque, Chairperson of the Department of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Sadik Rahman, the club moderator, who presented the collected amount to Mr. Shehanoor Rahman Asif during the event.

This successful initiative not only reflects the club’s commitment to social responsibility but also showcases the unity and generosity of the university community in times of need.
