Fall 2024 Industrial Visit: Exploring Steel Fabrication and Construction in MSBPL
On 4th January 2025, the Civil Engineering Department of East West University organized its Fall 2024 industrial visit to McDonald Steel Building Products Limited (MSBPL)- Fabrication Plant, at Gazipur. MSBPL is a leading steel building company in Bangladesh who had great deal of experience in steel construction with local and international partners since 1998. The purpose of this visit was to engage and enlighten students with the knowledge of recent technologies and practices of steel fabrication and building engineering in Bangladesh.
The students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Dhiraj Kumar, DGM (Accounts & Admin), who briefed the students on the history, notable projects, challenges and success story of the company. A key aspect of the plant visit was the discussion on the dos and don’ts of steel manufacturing and assembly. Students gained insights into safety protocols, the best practices, and quality control measures, which are essential in ensuring structural integrity inside the fabrication plants. They observed the process firsthand, from raw Billet steel handling to the production of the final steel products to challenging section manufacturing. The visit also covered corrosion protection techniques, which are vital for the longevity of steel structures exposed to various environmental conditions. Students came across the latest manufacturing techniques that enhance efficiency and precision in the steel industry.
The visit provided an invaluable learning experience, helping students connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Sadik Rahman for organizing this exceptional visit, as well as to Mr. Dhiraj Kumar and the entire team at McDonald Steel for their warm hospitality and insightful presentations. We look forward to more such educational experiences that will continue to enhance our students’ learning journey.
