East West University Celebrates World Pharmacists Day 2024

On 25 September 2024, the Department of Pharmacy at East West University proudly celebrated World Pharmacists Day, in alignment with the global pharmacy community. The theme for this year was “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs.”

The event began at 10:00 AM with a vibrant rally, featuring participation from Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser of East West University; Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice-Chancellor; Professor Md. Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy; along with all faculty members and students. The rally started from the university’s prayer room and concluded at the canteen area. Students carried colorful banners and festoons highlighting the crucial role pharmacists play worldwide.

At 10:30 AM, a cake-cutting ceremony was held, with enthusiastic participation from all those involved in the rally. The crowd cheered in celebration of pharmacists and their contributions to healthcare.

Following this, at 11:00 AM, a seminar took place at Lecture Gallery 550. The distinguished speaker, Mr. Abdus Salam, Senior Director of R&D at Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd., presented insightful discussions on "Meeting Global Health Needs Starts from Pharma R&D," emphasizing Bangladesh's pharmaceutical research and development in alignment with global standards.

The seminar’s chief guest was Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice-Chancellor of East West University, who delivered a speech highlighting the history and significance of World Pharmacists Day and its introduction in Bangladesh. He also engaged the audience with an interactive knowledge-based quiz. The participants took an oath, led by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, reaffirming their commitment to contributing to the betterment of humankind through their work as future pharmacists.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Professor Dr. Md. Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy and the program chair, offered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the participants, speakers, and guests for making the event a success.

The event left a lasting impact on students, fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness of the challenges and opportunities ahead in the field of pharmacy.
