EWU Faculty and Students Participate in Symposium on Strengthening Industry–Academia Collaboration

The Symposium on “Strengthening Industry–Academia Partnership in Healthcare and Materials Science” was successfully held on 18 September 2025 (Thursday) at the  Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka, jointly organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Engineering, University of Dhaka, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany.

The day-long program brought together over 400 participants, including representatives from public and private universities and pharmaceutical industries. A total of 46 oral presentations were delivered by scientists and researchers from the pharmacy discipline, covering a wide range of topics related to healthcare innovation, pharmaceutical sciences, and materials research.

From East West University (EWU), Dr. Farhana Rizwan, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, presented her work titled “Lipid Nano-Capsule (LNC) Loaded Hydrogel for Trans-Dermal Application”. This research represents a collaborative initiative between East West University, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and Nuvista Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Her talk was warmly appreciated by the symposium audience for its innovative approach to topical drug delivery and as a shining example of how academia and industry can work hand-in-hand to address pressing healthcare challenges. This collaboration reflects EWU’s commitment to advancing scientific research and building partnerships that translate cutting-edge discoveries into practical solutions for patient care.

Additionally, Mr. Sefat Ahmed and Mr. Sajib Ahammed, from the Department of Pharmacy, EWU, participated in the poster presentation session, showcasing their research titled, “Dietary Supplements Available in the Bangladeshi Local Market: Consumption Trends, Consumer Knowledge, Purchase Behavior, and Health Implications.”

Professor Dr. Amirul Islam and Professor Dr. Chowdhury Faiz Hossain also graced the symposium as esteemed delegates, representing EWU. Their presence underscored the university’s dedication to strengthening ties between academia and industry and fostering meaningful collaborations aimed at driving innovation and advancing healthcare research.

The symposium served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and strategic collaboration, bringing together academic and industry leaders to explore new frontiers in healthcare. EWU’s active participation in this prestigious event reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to pioneering research and collaborative initiatives that enhance public health and play a vital role in strengthening Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical sector.
