INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO THE "DASHERKANDI SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT"
On May 8, 2024, students from the Civil Engineering Department at East West University engaged in a daylong industrial visit to the Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant at Treemohoni, Dhaka. The visit involved the participation of 58 students, accompanied by 2 faculty members, and one lab instructor. The industrial visit extended to the Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant, renowned as the largest of its kind in South Asia, responsible for processing sewage for nearly five million inhabitants of Dhaka City daily.
During the visit, students were introduced to various techniques employed at the plant. Notably, the plant emphasizes a minimal use of chemicals, predominantly relying on natural processes for treatment and ensures that the treated water adheres to predefined parameters before being discharged into the nearby waterbody. Automation largely governs the operational processes within the treatment facility. Dr. Khondoker Al Sabbir Billah supervised the visit, facilitated by the East West University Civil Engineering Club. The dedication and expertise exhibited by the technical personnel affiliated with the Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant were duly recognized and appreciated during the industrial visit.
