The Department of Pharmacy, East West University, successfully organized a research seminar on “Determinants of Biosimilar Adoption in Emerging Economies” on 25 August 2026. The seminar brought together students, faculty members, and distinguished guests for an engaging academic discussion on the evolving landscape of biosimilars and the factors influencing their adoption across emerging economies.

The seminar featured Dr. Md. Abu Zafor Sadek, Deputy General Manager at UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals and Adjunct Associate Professor, as the Keynote Speaker. Drawing on his more than 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical management and the healthcare sector, Dr. Sadek shared valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with biosimilar adoption. His discussion highlighted the importance of regulatory frameworks, physician confidence, affordability and competitive pricing, patient awareness, market dynamics, and supportive government policies in facilitating wider biosimilar uptake.

The session was highly interactive and provided an excellent platform for students to engage directly with the keynote speaker. Through questions, discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities, participants had the opportunity to explore various practical and policy-related aspects of biosimilars in emerging healthcare markets. To further encourage active participation, Dr. Sadek also arranged special gifts for students who were able to provide correct answers during the interactive session.

The program was hosted by Ms. Joya Rani, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy, East West University, who skillfully facilitated the proceedings and contributed to the smooth and engaging conduct of the seminar.

The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Md. Amirul Islam, Chairman, Department of Pharmacy, East West University, who emphasized the importance of organizing such academic and industry-oriented discussions for the professional and intellectual development of pharmacy students. The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, East West University, who appreciated the initiative and highlighted the value of continued collaboration between academia and the pharmaceutical industry.

Overall, the seminar provided a meaningful opportunity for participants to enhance their understanding of biosimilars and their growing importance in improving access to cost-effective biological therapies.
