ICT funded project on panel cleaning optimization to commence in EWU
Dr. M. Ryyan Khan (EEE, EWU) and his collaborators have been awarded ICT innovation fund of 10 lac BDT for the project titled: “Dust and soiling on solar panels: effects on output, site evaluation and cleaning cycle prediction”. This project lead by Dr. Khan (EWU) is in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Khondaker A. Mamun (CSE, UIU) and Dr. Redwan Noor Sajjad (GCE, BUET).
High dust/soiling in our country de-rates the expected output and can reduce the profits by more than 5% -- the loss can be higher with some of the current practices of delayed cleaning. In this project, we will install experimental setups to collect soiling rate data from several different locations and develop a physics-based model for cleaning-cycle prediction. A software making cleaning decisions for solar parks will help recoup significant revenue otherwise lost due to unoptimized cleaning. This will be particularly important to our solar-energy industry as Bangladesh expand on its PV-renewables.
