Dr. Sadik Rahman is a passionate young environmental researcher with nearly four years of full-time university teaching experience and 1.5 years in the industry. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), with a focus on water quality monitoring and remediation. Dr. Rahman has worked in notable research initiatives, including a WHO water quality monitoring project and environmental strategic projects for the Sultanate of Oman.
During his doctoral studies, Dr. Rahman researched innovative and promising bio-electrochemical wastewater treatment and desalination processes, which investigated nanomaterial application to enhance desalination performance. Alongside, he also worked on projects related to anaerobic digestion, waste-to-resource recovery, and the application of AI in environmental remediation. With over five years of expertise in bio-electrochemical systems, he has excelled in system design, reactor fabrication, operation, and optimization, complemented by more than three years of experience in drinking water quality research. He led a prize-winning project to develop a mobile application for real-time solid waste collection and notification for Oman Environmental Services Holding Company—be'ah. His publication in high-impact journals attracted more than three international and prestigious recognitions awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in the years 2020, 2022, and 2023. His intriguing postgraduate project to use petrochemical wastewater to produce electricity for desalination was awarded by the Gulf Petrochemical and Chemicals Association (GPCA) in 2022.
Dr. Rahman has 17 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, notably in the Journal of Cleaner Production (Q1, 9.8), Desalination (Q1, 8.4), Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews (Q1, 16.3), Materials Today Sustainability (Q1, 7.1), Science of the Total Environment (Q1, 8.2), Environmental Research (Q1, 7.7), etc. He has presented his work at numerous conferences. He has supervised four undergraduate research groups and mentored three graduate students. Research outcomes of Dr. Rahman received international recognition for his contributions to research excellence and innovation, including a best doctoral thesis award. His work has received nearly 440 citations on Google Scholar (h-index: 11, i10-index: 11) and a ResearchGate score exceeding 310. Dr. Rahman is very keen to collaborate on industry-driven, cross-disciplinary challenges in environmental engineering and sustainable development.
During his tenure as a faculty member, Dr. Rahman was involved in several administrative and committee duties for departmental improvement. He is actively involved in the outcome-based education (OBE) process in East West University for the WASHINGTON ACCORD accreditation by BAETE. He is also the club moderator for the Civil Engineering Club.

- His Majesty’s Trust Fund (HMTF): “Microbial Electrochemical System for Desalination Accompanied by Sewage Treatment with Recovery of Resource and Energy” (SR/ENG/CAED/17/01)
Duties: Operated and maintained a diverse range of reactors, including conventional, circular, tubular, five-chamber microbial desalination, and fuel cell units. Contributed to reactor fabrication, assembly, and procurement of components and consumables from local and international suppliers. Provided support to bachelor’s and master’s research students, coordinated wastewater sample collection in collaboration with municipal wastewater authorities, and managed laboratory facilities dedicated to wastewater research. Additionally, handled administrative responsibilities assigned by the Principal investigator and prepared documentation for purchase approvals.
- Electrochemical Assisted Anaerobic Digestion for Power and Resource Recovery from Organic-Containing Waste (RC/RG-ENG/CAED/19/01)
Duties: Established temperature-controlled anaerobic digester batch units, including gas collection systems, while procuring necessary consumables and equipment. Conducted troubleshooting to resolve operational issues, supported research students, and prepared documentation for purchase pre-approvals.
- Teaching Duties: Conducting laboratory sessions, examination invigilation, examination scripts and laboratory report checking, grading, and documentation.

Duties: Delivering undergraduate lectures and conducting examinations. Actively participated in key academic committees such as the Syllabus Committee, Moderation Committee, Examination Management Committee, and Thesis Distribution Committee.
