Biography of Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman Talukder

Dr. Talukder is an accomplished Earthquake Engineering specialist, academic, and accredited Professional Engineer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. With a career spanning rigorous North American postgraduate research and impactful governmental engineering projects, Dr. Talukder currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at East West University (EWU). His expertise lies at the intersection of geotechnical engineering, structural dynamics, and advanced mathematical simulations of seismic phenomena.

Early Life and Education

Dr. Talukder’s academic journey began with a foundation of disciplined excellence at the prestigious Notre Dame College in Dhaka, where he completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) with a stellar score of 86.2% and was honored with a Perfect Attendance Certificate. He then enrolled at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the nation’s premier engineering institution. He graduated from BUET with a First Class Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering.

Academic Journey and Research Excellence in Canada

Driven by a passion for structural safety and seismic resilience, Dr. Talukder moved to Canada to pursue advanced postgraduate education under full scholarships and academic awards.

Master of Science (MSc) | Memorial University of Newfoundland: Located on Canada's eastern coast, he focused his research on the vibrations of structural foundations. His work contributed heavily to machine vibration experiments and advanced finite element stress-strain analysis.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) | McGill University: Relocating to the historic campus of McGill University in Montreal, he earned his doctorate by developing advanced mathematical simulations of ground motion amplifications during earthquakes.

Both his Master's and Doctoral theses are widely recognized and frequently cited within Canadian and global engineering academia.

Accredited as a professional engineer by the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Dr. Talukder possesses a rich portfolio of both international research and domestic infrastructure experience.

During his tenure at McGill University and the Memorial University of Newfoundland, he spearheaded advanced experimental and analytical testing, including:

Seismic and Geotechnical Fieldwork: Conducting microtremor and seismic shear wave velocity measurements across Montreal City, alongside comprehensive seismic response analysis of urban soils.
Advanced Materials Testing: Leading destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) of concrete, wood, metals, and polymers.
Computational Simulations: Mastering Finite Element Elastic and Inelastic Analysis for material stress-strain responses using specialized ABAQUS simulations.
Structural Reliability & Design: Executing structural reliability analyses and designing complex deep foundations.
Academic Mentorship: Serving as an impactful Teaching Assistant at both Canadian institutions.

Bangladeshi Industry Experience:

Prior to his doctoral track, Dr. Talukder served the Bangladesh Government as an Assistant Engineer for the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), where he worked directly on the Bangladesh Water Supply Program. His domestic practical work includes:

The structural construction of deep foundations for gantry structures at high-voltage electrical sub-stations.

Return to Bangladesh and Personal Interests:

After completing his higher education in Canada, Dr. Talukder returned to Dhaka to dedicate his expertise to mentoring the next generation of Bangladeshi engineers at East West University, while simultaneously serving as a technical consultant for premier engineering firms.

Outside of his professional and academic responsibilities, Dr. Talukder is an avid reader of newspapers, an active badminton player, and a passionate cyclist. He remains deeply connected to his roots, frequently spending his leisure time visiting his native ancestral village where he was born.
