A Tribute to Professor Dr. Sufia Islam

On August 26, 2025, we, the members of Department of Pharmacy, came together not to bid farewell, but to celebrate the remarkable journey of one of our most respected and beloved senior colleagues, Professor Dr. Sufia Islam, as she embarks on a new chapter through her early retirement.

The program began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Farhana Rizwan, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy while sharing her fond memories about Prof. Islam. Honourable Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, graced the event as Chief Guest. He thankfully acknowledged the immense contributions Prof. Islam has made in her academic and administrative roles for the flourishment of the Department of Pharmacy, EWU. Students and colleagues also shared their heartfelt memories, highlighting her mentorship, motherly affection, and inspiring leadership with never-ending encouragement. During her speech, Prof. Islam thanked the department for honouring her. She also shared some priceless guidance for the students and expressed warm wishes for her colleagues. The event concluded with a touching vote of thanks by our Chairperson, Professor Dr. Md. Amirul Islam.

In her long 22 years of journey in East West University, Prof. Sufia Islam’s presence has been nothing short of inspiring. As a teacher, mentor, and leader, she has motivated countless faculty members to rise above their comfort zones and strive for excellence. Her enthusiasm, punctuality, and dedication have set standards that will continue to guide everyone long into the future. As the Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy and later as the Director of IQAC at East West University, she led with vision, grace, and unwavering dedication. Beyond her leadership roles, Prof. Islam worked tirelessly for student development and departmental progress—always encouraging innovation, nurturing young minds, and creating opportunities for growth that will continue to benefit the Department for years to come. In every role, she brought not only exceptional leadership skills, but also warmth and genuine care for colleagues and students.

We will always cherish her charm, vision, and the way she embraced us with love and encouragement. Though her formal duties may be concluding, her influence will remain deeply rooted in the culture of our department and university.
