Professor Md. Anwar Hossain, the former Vice Chancellor of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) and an outstanding figure in the field of molecular microbial genetics, genome, metagenome, microbiome bioinformatics and vaccine development, has already established himself as an eminent scientist in home and abroad. He has been awarded BAS-National Professor Dr M Innas Ali Memorial Gold Medal Award 2017 and University Grants Commission (UGC) best researcher award 2011 and gold medal 2018. Dr. Hossain awarded Ekushey Padak 2022, the 2nd highest civilian award offered by the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh for his contributions in Science and Technology.

Dr. Anwar and his team have been working in multifaceted research areas notably Antibiotics resistance and pollutions, Foot-and-Mouth Disease Viruses, WSSV, As-microbiome, COVID-19 and long-COVID, Mastitis and Mastitis microbiome, Genomics and bioinformatics. Professor Anwar has been awarded research grants equivalent to 1.5 million US dollars by different funding agencies from home and abroad like World Bank, UGC, the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, The World Academy of Science, Bangladesh Academy of Science-United States Department of Agriculture etc. He has established research collaborations with various national and international research groups likes World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reference laboratories APHIS, USA, Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory, Pirbright Institute, UK, University of Rhein-Waal, Germany, Computational Biology Institute, Milken Institute School of Public Health, the George Washington University, USA and a number of nation-wide collaborations. As part of his passion for research, he has established two modern biotech research BSL-2 and a BSL-1 laboratories in the University of Dhaka and one advanced Genomic research laboratory in JUST.
Dr. Hossain attained research excellence globally for his research innovation in Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine. In 2018, most effective trivalent vaccine against FMD had been invented and declared by his team at a press conference, organized by the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), UGC authority.
