East West University Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Club (EWUGEBC) organized a research seminar on “Understanding of biological functions of proteins associated with metabolic disorders, including diabetes, fat induced liver disease and cancer” on 27 September 2018 at EWU campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka.  Dr. Fazlul Karim, Associate Professor of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University was the keynote speaker of the seminar.

The speaker discussed about SIRT7 molecule beneficial or not. Sirtuin 7 is an NAD+ dependent deacetylase. It is expressed in the Nucleus. It has a functional role in lipid metabolism by regulating the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway and bone formation by regulating the transcriptional activity of SP7/Osterix.  The imbalance of this molecule can cause various liver and cancerous diseases. The purpose of this seminar was to create research interest among the students and to elevate their knowledge in the field of biological science.
