EWU Researchers Receive CRTEWU Grant for Brain–Computer Interface Wheelchair Project

A research team led by Prof. Dr. Shamim H. Ripon, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), East West University (EWU), along with co-investigators Prof. Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dr. Raihan Ul Islam, and Dr. Mohammad Rifat Ahmmad Rashid, has received a research grant from the Centre for Research and Training (CRTEWU) for a project titled “A Brain–Computer Interface System to Control Wheelchair for Severe Mobility Impaired Persons.”

The team also includes Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rabiul Alam from BRAC University as an external collaborator. The project aims to develop an EEG-based thought-controlled wheelchair using advanced signal processing and deep learning techniques to enable hands-free mobility for individuals with severe motor impairments.

This innovative initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by promoting inclusive, equitable, and technology-driven assistive solutions for improving quality of life.
