A warm and heartiest welcome to the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) at East West University (EWU)!
With a view to preparing our students for the fourth industrial revolution, we have introduced a new curriculum in the Fall 2019 semester.
One of our missions is to render state-of-the-art education. This is also relevant to newer skillsets required by the changing technological context because of the fourth industrial revolution. Therefore, in our new curriculum, we have introduced courses with a focus on artificial intelligence, automation and data science.
Another of our missions is to develop leadership qualities in our graduates. We want to see our graduates as entrepreneurs generating values to their community and the economy. Hence, we have introduced a new course “Project Management, Entrepreneurship and Industry Interaction”. We look forward to offering this course as a platform for our students to interact with successful tech entrepreneurs and business leadership through in-class workshops, discussions, and technology-based business model generation with real-time feedback. At the same time, students will be equipped with necessary project management techniques and tools because of the importance of this ability in managing technology endeavors.
One of the features of Industry 4.0 is the synthesis of cyber, physical, and biological domains. This synthesis has created new cyber security and cyber ethical challenges. Courses like “Computer and Cyber Security” and “Cyber Ethics and Legal Frameworks” will be offered to prepare our students to face these new challenges.
The pursuit of excellence is never ending. It’s undoubtedly a continuous process and therefore, the department has established a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI loop) with the participation of faculty members, students, alumni, employer, and industrial advisors. The feedback from various stakeholders will be used to improve the curriculum and teaching-learning process at a regular predefined interval.
The rate of employment among our graduates is 86 percent within 6 months of the graduation. Our graduates are leading the electronics, information, and communications technology industry of the country for the last few decades. They are working in giant telecom and communications service and infrastructures companies like Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, Huawei, Fiber@Home, and many others. They also have opportunity to work for the government in BTRC, BTCL, ICT Division, Aspire to Innovation (A2I), etc. especially in the context of Digital Bangladesh program undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh.
Many of our graduates have been pursuing higher education in reputed universities abroad including USA, UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia, right immediately after their graduation. They are working globally and serving as the ambassadors of technological excellence of our institution and the country.
We look forward to consolidating our current leading position in the industry and academia through a coherent effort from our faculty members, students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
I must emphasize this a fascinating time to join our department to ensure a bright and shining future in this age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and information economy. I believe it from the core of my heart that the future is ours!
