Education:
I'm a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at East West University, Dhaka, where I teach courses like Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Separation Techniques, Biochemistry, Immunology, Forensic Biology, Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology of Diseases etc. My path started at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, where I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, securing top class positions with distinction. Before entering academia, I worked in Biotech Research and Development at Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Limited, focusing on biosimilars and vaccines. My research interests span the fields of Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Environmental Biotechnology, and Agricultural Biotechnology. I was named Best Researcher (Lecturer) at my department in 2025 and have addressed my extracurricular responsibilities through the Biotech Club. Always happy to connect with fellow researchers, educators, and biotech professionals.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition with increasing prevalence worldwide, including in Bangladesh. This study investigated prenatal, perinatal, and environmental risk factors associated with ASD in northeastern Bangladesh, where data on the disorder is scarce. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 168 children diagnosed with ASD (CWA), 167 typically developing children (TDC), and 185 unaffected siblings (Sib), recruited from five government-approved specialized schools in Sylhet, northeastern Bangladesh. Diagnoses were confirmed using a modified ADI-R/ADOS, and logistic regression was used to analyze associated risk factors. Advanced maternal age, firstborn status, and a history of consanguinity were significant prevalence of prenatal/perinatal complications, including birth asphyxia and blood Rh incompatibility, compared to TDC and Sib. A considerable gap in scientific awareness was noted, with many parents attributing their child’s condition to associated with ASD. Parental exposure to mercury-based dental amalgam was also strongly linked to ASD. CWA had a higher generational or religious belief. We identified critical risk factors contributing to the high prevalence of ASD in northeastern Bangladesh, underscoring the need for enhanced diagnostic, educational, and healthcare strategies to ensure good health and well-being and to provide quality education for individuals with ASD.
Prominently accountable for the upsurge of COVID‐19 cases as the world attempts to recover from the previous two waves, Omicron has further threatened the conventional therapeutic approaches. The lack of extensive research regarding Omicron has raised the need to establish correlations to understand this variant by structural comparisons. Here, we evaluate, correlate, and compare its genomic sequences through an immunoinformatic approach to understand its epidemiological characteristics and responses to existing drugs. We reconstructed the phylogenetic tree and compared the mutational spectrum. We analyzed the mutations that occurred in the Omicron variant and correlated how these mutations affect infectivity and pathogenicity. Then, we studied how mutations in the receptor‐binding domain affect its interaction with host factors through molecular docking. Finally, we evaluated the drug efficacy against the main protease of the Omicron through molecular docking and validated the docking results with molecular dynamics simulation. Phylogenetic and mutational analysis revealed the Omicron variant is similar to the highly infectious B.1.620 variant, while mutations within the prominent proteins are hypothesized to alter its pathogenicity. Moreover, docking evaluations revealed significant differences in binding affinity with human receptors, angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 and NRP1. Surprisingly, most of the tested drugs were proven to be effective. Nirmatrelvir, 13b, and Lopinavir displayed increased effectiveness against Omicron. Omicron variant may be originated from the highly infectious B.1.620 variant, while it was less pathogenic due to the mutations in the prominent proteins. Nirmatrelvir, 13b, and Lopinavir would be the most effective, compared to other promising drugs that were proven effective.
